Attendance

We believe that regular school attendance is essential for student success. Consistent attendance ensures that students can fully participate in learning activities, access valuable educational opportunities, and develop habits that will benefit them both academically and in life beyond school.

Why Attendance Matters:

  1. Academic Success: Students who attend school regularly are more likely to succeed in their studies. Missing school can lead to gaps in learning, making it difficult to catch up with lessons and assignments.
  2. Social Development: Regular attendance allows students to build relationships with their peers and teachers, creating a positive and supportive school environment.
  3. Skill Development: Attendance helps students develop important skills like time management, responsibility, and commitment—skills that are essential for success in both education and future careers.

Reporting Absences:

If a student is unable to attend school due to illness or another valid reason, parents or guardians should inform the school as soon as possible. You can report an absence by:

  • Using the online absence reporting system available on ClassCharts (preferred method).
  • Calling the school office on 01639 634700.

Absences should be reported by 8.30 a.m. on the day of the absence. A written note explaining the absence is required upon the student's return to school.

Types of Absences:

  • Excused Absences: Absences due to illness, medical appointments, religious observances, or other legitimate reasons. Documentation may be required in some cases.
  • Unexcused Absences: Absences that are not justified by a valid reason.

Arriving on time is crucial for a smooth start to the school day. Pupils should be on time for all classes. If a pupil is late, they must report to the school office to sign in before going to class.

Support for Students:

If a student is struggling with attendance, whether due to personal, emotional, or academic reasons, we encourage families to reach out to the school. We are committed to providing support, including counselling, tutoring, and other resources, to help students succeed.
